Looking ahead into 2018

Albuquerque, NM - - January 30, 2018

"El que adelante no mira, atrás se queda." If you don't look ahead, you'll stay behind.

¡Prospero Ano Nuevo y Feliz 2018!

A new year can bring new hopes.

And, a new political-election-year - - is bound to bring new drama and surprises. This 2018 mid-term election year will be no different.

It's definitely time to look ahead.

Will Republicans lose their majority in the U.S. House of Representatives?

Currently, Republicans in the House hold a majority of 241 seats to Democrats' 194.

Democrats, however, are well-positioned to gain seats in the House this November - - because since 1934, the party of a newly elected president has suffered an average loss of 23 seats in the House in the following midterm.

Moreover, there are 23 House seats held by a Republican incumbent that Hillary Clinton won in 2016 - - compared to 12 House seats held by a Democratic incumbent that Donald Trump won in 2016.

Will the Republican Majority in the U.S. Senate be jeopardized?

A total of 33 of the 100 Senate seats will be up for election.

Heading into November, the Republicans holds a 51-seat majority in the Senate. Democrats hold 47 seats with two Independents, who caucus with the Democratic caucus.

Senate Democrats are on the defensive in 2018, as they are left defending 25 seats (two of which are held by Independents), while only eight seats up for election in 2018 are held by Republican incumbents. The Democratic Party is further weakened by having to defend Senate seats in 10 states which Donald Trump won in 2016.

On the other hand, statewide gubernatorial victories in VA and NJ as well as the Senate victory in AL - - all in late 2017 - - are keeping Democrats hopeful.

In New Mexico - - we will have a number of exciting political races with many new faces.

So, look ahead - - don't be left behind - - REGISTER and VOTE this year!
