Joseph Samora Contact

After a fulfilling career with managerial experience at high administrative levels, I retired and moved back to Albuquerque in 2017 to be near family. Now, a few years later, I want to return to the workforce to reclaim a sense of accomplishment and contribution.

I have excellent communication, writing and people skills. I am especially adept at building collaborative relations across sectors (public, private, and non-profit) leading to sustainable solutions that consider the needs and goals of each. I have mentored many young professionals and enjoy helping others grow professionally.

I moved to Washington in 1990, when I was appointed as a White House Fellow and worked as an Associate Director in the White House Office of Public Liaison.

After leaving the White House, I joined the International Mass Retail Association (IMRA) as Senior Vice President of Congressional Affairs & Communications.

From 1997 to 2014, I established and headed the Washington office for CNH Industrial NV [NYSE: CNHI], a Fortune 500 manufacturing company of Fiat S.p.A. of Torino, Italy. For seventeen years, as the head of government relations and chief lobbyist, I developed and implemented engagement strategy with government officials, embassies, trade associations, governmental financial institutions, including the negotiations and acquisition of Chrysler by Fiat by the U.S. Department of Treasury of the Obama Administration in 2009.

Prior to moving to Washington, I served as Chairman of the New Mexico Public Service Commission. Previously, I worked as General Counsel and Administrative Assistant to former New Mexico Supreme Court Chief Justice William Riordan - - for whom I clerked after law school - - and was engaged in private practice with Butt Thornton and Baehr PC, an Albuquerque law firm.

I serve, or have served, as an officer or on the board of directors of the National Association of Manufacturers, the Business Industry Political Action Committee, Equality New Mexico, the NM LGBTQ Bar Association, and as a singer & president of the NM Gay Men’s Chorus.

The Samora family is, at least, thirteenth-generation native New Mexican. I am a descendant of the Tierra Amarilla Land Grant. Born and raised in Albuquerque, I am the youngest of nine children. A first-generation college graduate, I earned a B.A. in communications from the University of New Mexico, and a J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law. I am a member of the State Bar of New Mexico, District of Columbia Bar, and the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States. I enjoy travel, fishing, golf, singing, and cooking New Mexican cuisine. I currently reside in the North Valley of Albuquerque.
